Chance Thayer has a background that includes farming and ranching in rural Nebraska. There, he learned the importance and value of Nebraska’s water resources. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he received both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Biological Systems Engineering with an Environmental Emphasis. During his college days, he worked for the USDA-Agricultural Research Service where he researched water quality in agricultural runoff. This led to a thesis focused on nutrient runoff following manure application to agricultural lands. At The Flatwater Group, Chance’s work has ranged from surveying streams and lakes to modeling river flows and water supply availability. He has also gathered and organized historic data to be used to analyze crop evapotranspiration.

Outside the office, Chance likes being outdoors with his wife riding bikes, playing disc golf, or just enjoying a sunset on the deck.
